Quick answer: For most Indian homes, a 3 kW hybrid inverter on a 24 V battery bank is the right size. Two 200 Ah C10 tubular batteries give about 4 hours of backup at a 500 W load (fans, lights, TV, fridge, Wi-Fi). To run a 1.5 ton AC on backup, choose a 5 kW inverter and at least four 200 Ah batteries or a 5 kWh lithium pack. In the day, a hybrid inverter runs the house from solar and charges the battery at the same time.
Devsol inverter + battery sets (MRP incl. GST, 28 September 2026):
- 2 to 3 BHK, no AC on backup: Devsol INNO 9G 3 kW 24 V + 2 × 200 Ah C10 tubular — ₹84,322 (about 4 hours at 500 W).
- Same home, maintenance-free battery: INNO 9G 3 kW + 1 × 100 Ah 25.6 V LiFePO4 (3,500 cycles) — ₹1,01,756.
- 3 to 4 BHK with one AC: Devsol INNO 9G 5 kW 24 V + 4 × 200 Ah C10 (2 in series, 2 strings) — ₹1,49,692.
- Large home, outdoor wall: Devsol INNO 9G Pro 6 kW 48 V (IP65) + 1 × 100 Ah 51.2 V LiFePO4 — ₹2,23,410 (about 5 hours at 800 W).
*Backup hours are estimates at a steady load, using 50% depth of discharge for tubular and 90% for lithium and 90% inverter efficiency. Solar panels and installation are extra. Devsol sells through authorised dealers.
Most guides tell you to buy a bigger inverter and a bigger battery. This one does the arithmetic instead: what your appliances draw, how much battery that needs, how many hours you will actually get, and what the complete inverter-plus-battery set costs. All Devsol prices are the published MRP including GST on 28 September 2026. Devsol Energy publishes this guide and sells the Devsol range through dealers.
Step 1: add up what you want to run in a power cut
| Appliance | Typical running watts |
|---|---|
| LED bulb | 9 W to 12 W |
| LED tube light | 20 W |
| Ceiling fan (normal / BLDC) | 75 W / 30 W |
| LED TV (43 inch) | 80 W to 100 W |
| Wi-Fi router | 10 W to 15 W |
| Refrigerator (double door, average) | 120 W to 150 W |
| Air cooler | 150 W to 200 W |
| Washing machine | 400 W to 500 W |
| Water pump (1 HP) | 750 W, 3 times that for a moment at start |
| 1.5 ton inverter AC (5 star) | 900 W to 1,500 W |
| Iron / microwave | 1,000 W to 1,200 W |
Example, 2 BHK: 4 fans (300 W) + 6 LED lights (60 W) + TV (100 W) + fridge (150 W) + Wi-Fi (15 W) = about 625 W. Example, 3 BHK with AC: the same plus one 1.5 ton inverter AC (about 1,200 W) = about 1.9 kW.
Step 2: pick the inverter size
Keep the load that runs at the same time below about 80% of the inverter rating, and leave room for motor start-up (fridge, pump, AC).
- Up to 2.4 kW together: 3 kW inverter. Fans, lights, TV, fridge and a small pump.
- Up to 4 kW together: 5 kW inverter. Adds one 1.5 ton AC.
- Up to 4.8 kW together, or 48 V lithium: 6 kW inverter. Two ACs at night need a larger bank as well.
Step 3: how many batteries, and how many hours
A 24 V inverter needs two 12 V batteries in series; a 48 V inverter needs four, or one lithium pack of the same voltage. To get more hours on 24 V, add a second pair in parallel (4 batteries in total).
| Battery bank | Usable energy | 300 W | 500 W | 800 W | 1.2 kW | 1.5 kW | 2 kW |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 200 Ah C10 (12 V) | 1.1 kWh | 3.6 h | 2.2 h | 1.4 h | 0.9 h | — | — |
| 2 × 200 Ah C10 (24 V) | 2.2 kWh | 7.2 h | 4.3 h | 2.7 h | 1.8 h | 1.4 h | 1.1 h |
| 1 × 100 Ah 25.6 V LiFePO4 | 2.1 kWh | 6.9 h | 4.1 h | 2.6 h | 1.7 h | 1.4 h | 1.0 h |
| 4 × 200 Ah C10 (24 V or 48 V) | 4.3 kWh | 14.4 h | 8.6 h | 5.4 h | 3.6 h | 2.9 h | 2.2 h |
| 1 × 100 Ah 51.2 V LiFePO4 | 4.1 kWh | 13.8 h | 8.3 h | 5.2 h | 3.5 h | 2.8 h | 2.1 h |
Formula used: backup hours = battery kWh × usable depth of discharge × 0.9 inverter efficiency ÷ load in kW. Tubular batteries are counted at 50% depth of discharge (deeper discharge shortens their life) and deliver less than this at heavy loads; LiFePO4 at 90%. Real backup also depends on battery age and temperature.
Step 4: tubular or lithium?
| 200 Ah C10 tubular (12 V) | 100 Ah LiFePO4 (25.6 V) | |
|---|---|---|
| Devsol price | ₹16,948 each (₹33,896 for a 24 V pair) | ₹51,330 |
| Usable energy | about 1.2 kWh each | about 2.3 kWh |
| Rated cycle life | see the battery datasheet | 3,500 cycles (Devsol listing) |
| Maintenance | distilled water top-up | none |
| Weight and space | heavy, floor space | light, wall or rack |
Tubular costs less on day one. Lithium costs more but needs no water, charges faster from solar, and is rated for far more cycles, so it usually costs less per year of use where power cuts are daily. If cuts are rare, tubular is the sensible buy.

Start without a battery, add it later
Devsol INNO 8G and 9G hybrid inverters run directly from solar with no battery connected. You can install panels and the inverter now, cut your daytime bill straight away, and add the battery bank when your budget allows. Many hybrid inverters and PCUs sold in India will not start without a battery, so ask for this feature by name.
How much solar do you need to charge the battery?
As a rule of thumb for Indian sunshine, 1 kW of panels produces about 4 kWh a day. A 2.2 kWh usable battery plus 3 kWh of daytime household use needs roughly 1.5 kW to 2 kW of panels; a 3 kW inverter with 2 kW to 3 kW of panels is a balanced home system. Two Devsol 740 W HDT panels give about 1.5 kW.
